Email: PBurk@Bataviacsd.org
Term Ends: 6/30/2013
Patrick D. Burk, a native of Rochester and a graduate of nearby Caledonia-Mumford Central School, has resided in Batavia for more than 25 years. Mr. Burk is a veteran Board member. Mr. Burk says, “Being a board member allows me to contribute to the education of our young people. It is the most important investment we can make. It also allows me to be a part of a successful District. I have enjoyed a twenty-plus year involvement with the Batavia City School District and I do want to continue that involvement.” In his many years on the Board, Mr. Burk feels he has contributed most in the business and student relations aspects. “I also feel that I relate well to staff and the community. I like the fact that many trust me to bring issues to the Board or to at least look into things.” In addition, Mr. Burk says, “I know that we have a solid District and I am extremely proud to be a part of it. I am pleased with our outcomes and see a tremendous amount of positive results from our students. I also am champion of our staff. I believe that they are excellent and I see that they work hard to obtain the positive outcomes.”

Wayne Guenther
Member
Email: Wguenther@bataviacsd.org
Term Ends: 6/30/2011
Wally Guenther is not new to education. He retired from teaching after spending 33 years with fifth graders in the nearby Oakfield-Alabama District. He also served on the Batavia Board of Education for eight years in the 1980’s. He and his wife Deborah - who is also a retired teacher - have had two children graduate from the Batavia District. Says Mr. Guenther, “Being retired, I have more time to devote to this position (than when I was first on the Board in the 80's). I feel I have the educational background to add ‘that piece’ to the School Board.”

Steven Mountain
Member
Email: Smountain@bataviacsd.org
Term Ends: 06/30/13
Steve Mountain and his wife, Batavia native Kelly (Tanner) Mountain, have lived in Batavia for over 15 years and have three children who attend District schools. Joining the Board in 2007, Mr. Mountain had been encouraged by community members to seek election because of his professional experience. As a licensed professional engineer who worked many years for an engineering and architectural firm before becoming the Town Engineer for the Town of Batavia, Mr. Mountain filled a void of expertise for the District that had been left by another engineer and long-term Board member Bob Radley. In addition to believing his engineering background would be of value to the District, Mr. Mountain says, “I want to see the Batavia City School District succeed in its goals and am willing to help in any way I can to make that happen.”

Gary Stich
Member
Email: gstich@bataviacsd.org
Term Ends: 6/30/2012
Gary Stich and his wife, Beth, have two sons; one that recently graduated and another attending Batavia High School. Gary is the President and CEO of OXBO International Corporation in Byron. "I became involved with the Board as a Budget Ambassador when that program started several years ago," says Mr. Stich. "It is important to me to be involved because I think we have many positive aspects to our schools and our District. As the financial pressures continue to increase, and the mandates from the New York State Education Department and the federal government remain in place, it will be a challenge to maintain our progress and continue to improve our District."
