June 1, 2020 Dear Batavia Blue Devils Community, This past week we witnessed a horrific situation take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a result of the actions of others, a larger pain and divide that has been ignored revealed itself again across our country. The historic disenfranchisement of Black people and the pain and anger associated within that community manifested itself in cities across this country - two of them geographically connected to us in Rochester and Buffalo. Unfortunately, individuals took advantage of these protests and turned to violence and criminal activities. Those actions cannot be condoned and are counter to the work and philosophies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others. We must not allow those criminal actions and behaviors to defer us from the real conversation that needs to occur in all of our communities.

Today, Governor Cuomo extended our school closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue to provide our remote learning program for students for the duration of this closure. As we receive guidance from New York State, an official end date for our remote learning program will be announced. Additionally, we will continue with our food distribution for the duration of this closure. Plans for students to retrieve remaining personal belongings from schools will be communicated to families in the near future.
