Dear Batavia Blue Devils,
I am writing to report on our first week of COVID-19 BINAX Rapid testing at the district and to provide some additional COVID-19 related information.
The City of Batavia is designated a Yellow Zone as part of Governor Cuomo’s Micro Cluster strategy which requires us to test 20% of all in-person students and staff in the district over a two week period. If the district can demonstrate a positivity rate lower than our community rate then we will no longer be required to test students and staff beyond our two-week window.
Below are our Week 1 COVID-19 BINAX Rapid testing results.
I want to thank all of our parents and guardians who continue to support our efforts to remain open for our in-person hybrid learning model by providing our school district consent to test at school. I know it wasn’t an easy decision for everyone but we received nearly 1,700 signed consent forms.
I also wanted to share that we did see a large influx of positive cases reported on our COVID-19 School Report Card which were associated with our schools over the winter break. We are up from 44 cases to a total of 71 cases reported. The majority of the increase in positive cases did not occur while school was in session.
Please visit our COVID-19 School Report Card here: https://schoolcovidreportcard.health.ny.gov/#/home and search “Batavia CSD” to see our school by school results from September through yesterday.
As we head into the weekend, and the Buffalo Bills begin their playoff run please continue to be mindful of social gatherings in the community and household spread. Your ability to keep our positivity rate low for our community assists us in making sure we don’t move into more restrictive color zones. It also allows our local businesses to remain open.
WE are Better Together…WE are Batavia!!!
