April 14, 2021
Hello Batavia Blue Devil Families,
First, I want to thank you for your continued patience and perseverance. I know that this has not been an easy year for anyone.
As you are probably aware, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) released updated Interim Guidance for in-person instruction. There were over 180 changes to the document from the last time NYSDOH issued the guidance. One of the major updates in the interim guidance was the alignment to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendation of 3’ feet social distancing in classrooms.
This change does continue to support our ability and plans to reopen fully on April 19th, 2021 for our students and families who have chosen in-person learning. Families who have chosen 100% Remote Learning will not see any change in their child’s experience and will remain so until the end of the academic year.
All schools have sent home communication regarding the return to 5-day a week in-person learning. If you have not received any information please contact your respective school with any outstanding questions regarding the return. You can also submit any outstanding questions via our Let’s Talk link on our district website and select “Reopening Plans” at https://www.bataviacsd.org/page/lets-talk
I want to also remind you that Thursday, April 15th and Friday, April 16th are two fully virtual asynchronous days to allow our teaching and district staff an opportunity to finalize any last-minute changes to welcome our students back on Monday. Teachers should have communicated with students by now any required activities or work that needs to be completed over those two days.
As we move forward with our plan I want to continue to encourage our parents and families to continue to help us mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by continuing to wear your mask, practice social distancing when possible, keep your child home if they feel ill and if eligible, consider getting your child and family vaccinated. Only together, can we continue to keep our schools safe and fully open for a strong finish.
Lastly, given our community’s tolerance and our unique community circumstances, the Batavia Board of Education and I remain committed to continue with our plans to fully reopen for our in-person learners. Please know that the district will continue to monitor daily the NYS COVID-19 data for our region and will continue to work with the local county health department as we move forward with our plans to finish the year Batavia Strong.
We are excited for next week and once again want to thank you for understanding and ongoing support.
WE are Better, Together…WE are Batavia!!!
