Can’t Mask the Batavia Pride!

That’s the message we are sending out to all of our students, staff, and families, and I would love for you to join us in this very easy and quick "goodwill" effort.

“Can’t Mask the Batavia Pride!” is in response to all the re-orienting that has been required to re-open school – from social distancing and face mask mandates, to hybrid and virtual learning and sport delays/cancellations.

“Can’t Mask the Batavia Pride!” is a reminder to our community of learners that there is something that hasn’t changed: the pride of and in Batavia. Community members like you are sharing a few positive words of encouragement, pride, appreciation, and/or support that will mean a lot to our students, their families, and staff.

Here’s how:

  • Get a large Blue Devil-head-on-a-stick mask– see picture. We will deliver, or you can pick up Contact Kathie Scott at or call her at (585) 343-2480 ext. 1018.
  • Take a digital picture or record a short video (approximately 10-30 seconds) with the mask next to you, but not covering your face. (Again, you can do this or I can.)
  • Provide a short positive message (support, encouragement, pride, appreciation, etc.) either included/written with the picture or spoken in the video. You can direct your message to students, staff, and/or families. Be sure to include your name and, if applicable, what business, organization, or agency you represent.
  • Email the picture/caption-message or video clip to me, Kathie Scott, @, before or by Halloween.

Your message will be shared directly with students and staff through their email, as well as shared on our District social media platforms. If you wish to post it on your social media as well, we ask that you include this hashtag: #CantMaskTheBataviaPride

Please let me know if you are able to join this effort to reach out to our students, their families, and staff. Our plan is to have all photos/videos collected by Halloween, and to start running them right around the end of the month.

If you have any questions, please ask! If you think of other people who you believe would be interested in participating, feel free to forward this message, or let me know who they are so I can contact them as well!

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!

PS: Here’s an example of the sort of simple script being used:

"Hi Batavia students, this is Mask Wearer from Batavia Message, Inc., and I just want to let you know how impressed I am with how well you are handling all the adjustments you've had to make this year. Keep up the great work!”
