When Should I Contact the School Counselor?

Parents may contact the school counselor if:

  • Your child doesn't want to go to school

  • Your child keeps telling you that he/she doesn't have any friends

  • Your family circumstances have changed (divorce, separation, domestic violence, substance abuse, etc.)

  • Your child seems frustrated by school and helping doesn't make it better

  • There has been a death or loss in the family and you want information to help you talk to your child about it.

Students may contact the school counselor if:

  • He/she is having trouble with a friend

  • He/she is getting picked on and doesn't know how to handle it

  • He/she wants someone to talk to

  • He/she is having trouble with schoolwork and doesn't know where to go to get help

  • He/she wants to learn about leadership, cultural diversity, community service, or careers
