Girls on the Run

  • Girls on the Run at Batavia Middle School is beginning their second season this fall. GOTR, a nationwide program, is a 10 week program for girls entering grades 5-8. The program is held on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 3:30 - 5:00. The girls participate in interactive activities that promote healthy friendships, empowerment, self - esteem and problem solving, just to name a few topics!

GOTR also includes a running component in which the girls set goals for themselves through out the 10 weeks. They will build physical stamina and they will  complete a 5k at the end of the season!

The girls also participate in various community impact projects. The girls collaborate together to plan and carry out a fundraiser to benefit a specific local group. This past spring, the girls held a shoe drive that supplied gently worn shoes to third world countries and in turn raised money for the GOTR scholarship fund. The scholarship fund allows all girls the opportunity to participate in GOTR despite financial hardships. They collected over 1200 pairs of shoes this past spring. They also held a bake sale and car wash. The girls worked hard to raise over $400 for a local family in need.

The fall 5k will be held on Sunday, November 6th, 2016 at Delaware Park in Buffalo.

The spring session will begin in March. Stay tuned for more information!!
