Board Adopts Budget Proposal for 2019-2020

The Board of Education, at their meeting on April 2, adopted a 2019-2020 school budget proposal to be brought to the Batavia residents for vote next month. The proposed budget presents a spending plan of $50,518,573, a decrease of 3.20% from 2018-2019. The projected tax levy increase associated with the proposal is 2.93%. According to New York State's formula, this year's allowable tax cap for a simple majority vote in our District is 4.69%; the projected levy is 1.76% less than that cap.

Previous drafts of the proposed budget had projected a tax levy increase of 11.51%, then 10.29%, then 8.78%, and finally, for the adopted plan, 2.93%. No programming needed to be cut to reduce the projected tax levy; rather, factors contributing to the changes included decreases in expenditures due to retirements and the delay of some purchases, and an increase in State aid.

The public hearing for the proposed budget is May 7, 2019, at 6:30 pm in the Batavia High School library at 260 State Street. Organizations are welcome to request presentations as well. Please call 343-2480 x1000 for scheduling.

Voting will take place on May 21, from 7 am to 9 pm at the Robert Morris building and Batavia High School.
