Caring is a Key For Sources of Strength

The Sources of Strength group at Batavia High, part of an international suicide prevention program that utilizes trained peer leaders and adult mentors, sponsored a Thirty-Day Acts of Kindness Challenge for the month of January, with a different theme each week that was related to kindness. Students and staff were encouraged to participate by displaying the behavior of the week’s theme, by nominating a student or staff person who represents the week’s theme, and by depositing spare change into one of the Coins for Kindness bottles located in the school, the proceeds of which are being donated to the Genesee County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

The second week’s theme was Caring, with six students and five staff members nominated for recognition. The students were (left to right), Caitlin Kingston, Cameron Austin, Matthew Beach, Lillyann Rumble, Stephanie Dibble, and, (not pictured) Andresha Richardson. The staff members were (left to right) Mr. John Kirkwood, Mrs. Catherine Weaver, Mr. Burton Howell, Mrs. Laura Johnson, , and Mr. Nate Korzelius.
