Mrs. Notaro is an Outstanding Staff Member

Mrs. Notaro is an Outstanding Staff Member Mrs. Maureen Notaro, assistant principal for grades 7 and 8 at Batavia Middle School, was presented with an Outstanding Staff Member Award by Board of Education president Patrick Burk at the BCSD Board meeting on June 4. She was nominated by BMS principal Ashley Grillo, who wrote, “Mrs. Notaro is tireless in her efforts at Batavia Middle School, working hard every day to see that student needs are met. She is an outstanding assistant principal, but she also serves students as a teacher and counselor. Not only does she hold students accountable for their actions, but she also takes a proactive approach by helping students be better citizens. She handles student discipline as a restorative process by turning situations into teachable moments. In addition, she oversees the building's character education program through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Initiative and helps a committee develop positive character trait lessons that are taught each month. She is a presence in the building and commands respect. She empowers others to be leaders and this is evident by the improved disciplinary outcomes at BMS. Mrs. Notaro is a master at helping families get needed resources and she always has a student's best interest in mind when working through tough situations.”
