High School Vaccinations Available ages 16 and Up* The Genesee and Orleans County Health Department are hosting Pfizer COVID-19 Clinics. These clinics are available to high school students age 16 and 17. The vaccine appointment is for the high school student and one accompanying guardian. Benefits of getting the vaccine: You will be able to attend events or activities without needing a COVID-19 test. This will allow for prom and graduation to be more inclusive for your classmates and family members. Fully vaccinated individuals will not be placed on quarantine when in contact with a positive case. This will allow for less school-based quarantines including sports teams.

EARTHDAY WEEKEND CLEANUP The City of Batavia, Genesee County, and the Town of Batavia are looking for volunteers for this year’s EARTHDAY Cleanup focusing on Ellicott Trail. Volunteers and municipal staff will join together to collect trash and debris along the Ellicott Trail. Please join us on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot behind the City of Batavia Fire Station on Evans Street (behind 18 Evans). Gloves, trash bags, and a trail assignment will be given out to complete the 5 miles of Ellicott Trail. The disposal of all trash collected will be handled by City of Batavia Bureau of Maintenance. EARTHDAY Cleanup is a coordinated volunteer event, providing opportunities for individuals and organizations to make positive, tangible impacts on our environment and to keep the Ellicott Trail clean. “The City of Batavia thanks all those community members who are volunteering to cleanup and keep Ellicott Trail looking good this EARTHDAY Cleanup Weekend. Your help to keep our City clean and safe is much appreciated,” said Eugene Jankowski Jr., City Council President. Vice Chairwoman of the Genesee County Legislature and City Resident, Marianne Clattenburg said, “by joining together and assisting in the cleanup effort we can give residents and visitors a better experience on the Ellicott Trail. I am excited to participate and hope community members and service groups will join us.” “Ellicott Trail was built as a collaborative partnership between the City, Town and County and we will continue to maintain the Trail for public use and enjoyment. While this is the inaugural Trail Cleanup there will be many more opportunities to volunteer and keep our collective community beautiful,” said Chad Zambito, Town Board member, Town of Batavia. If you would like to volunteer but cannot attend on EARTHDAY Cleanup – Ellicott Trail please sign up through “Friends of Ellicott Trail” with John Roche from Adam Miller Toy & Bicycle at adammiller2@verizon.net or go to their website: https://www.adammillertoyandbicycle.com/ If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Lisa Casey, Confidential Secretary with the City of Batavia 585-345-6333. April 5, 2021 Dear Parents of Batavia High School students: I am writing to follow up on the decision that the Board of Education made to reopen our schools for in person learning on April 19th. I am really excited for the opportunity for our hybrid students to return to BHS five days a week. In January, our superintendent, Mr. Soler, asked families to complete a survey so we would know how to plan for our 2nd half of the year. Families who chose a completely remote schedule will remain in that schedule for the rest of the year. All of our hybrid students will return to classes 5 days a week. The students’ schedules will remain the same. The only change will be that the hybrid online learning days will now be in person. Batavia High School will continue with a half day schedule on Fridays. Friday afternoons will continue to be scheduled for students who need to recover credit to successfully complete their classes. Students who need to be here on Friday afternoon have been or will be notified by their counselor. Students who are in BOCES Career and Tech programming will continue to attend those classes in person on Mondays and Tuesdays. They will attend BHS in person on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Their Fridays will continue to alternate between BHS and BOCES classes. As we prepare to transition back, April 15th and 16th will be utilized as asynchronous learning days. This means that teachers will provide online assignments for those two days but will not be streaming classes. This will allow our staff to make sure we are prepared for the return of all of our in person students on April 19th. We will continue with our safety protocols as we move forward. All students and staff will wear masks throughout the day. We will continue to have 6 feet between students as they are eating. Students in classrooms will be seated between 3 and 6 feet apart. We will continue to stagger student dismissal and lunch times to help alleviate any congestion in the hallways. Please note: Students need to come to school each day with a mask that is fitted to cover both their nose and mouth. The Board of Education, Mr. Soler, and building administrators will continue to monitor the local Covid numbers as we finalize plans for increased in person learning. We will notify families if any changes need to be made to the plan. Thank you, Paul D. Kesler Principal
