Batavia City School District Receives National Recognition for Music Education

The Batavia City School District is proud to announce it has once again been honored with the 2026 NAMM Foundation’s “Best Communities for Music Education” designation, recognizing its continued excellence and longstanding commitment to comprehensive music education. Now in its 27th year, the program continues to spotlight and celebrate school districts and individual schools across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.
This marks the third consecutive year BCSD has earned this national honor, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in music education.
Superintendent Jason Smith said of the honor, "Earning this recognition for a third consecutive year reflects how deeply our district values music as part of a well-rounded education. From elementary instrumental and vocal programs to high school ensembles, marching band, and theater productions, Batavia students have meaningful opportunities at every stage. As someone who personally benefited from our music program, it's especially rewarding to see our students and staff honored again on a national level."
"This recognition reflects the passion and dedication our students and staff bring to music every day. Earning this distinction for a third consecutive year speaks to the strength and depth of our program, from chorus and orchestra to rock band, pep band, and our musical productions. This honor belongs to our students, our music educators, and the families and community members who continue to champion the arts in Batavia," said Melzie Case, BCSD Music Department Chair.
Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities, and community support. To uphold the program’s rigor and credibility, all applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.
